Lone Pine Film History Museum
The Lone Pine Film History Museum has an impressive collection of artifacts all relating to movies made here and the people who stared in them. Even before stepping into the Museum itself visitors are treated to a mural of Lone Pine’s film history spanning an entire wall of the building, and out front sits an authentic 1800’s carriage in perfect condition. When guests enter the museum there sit’s a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado decked out with everything from chromed pistols to a pair of long horns on the front; the Cadillac is on loan from the estate of famed costume designer Nudie “The Rodeo” Taylor.
Have you ever seen the movie Gunga Din? Maverick perhaps? Maybe you were a fan of Rawhide, Bonanza, or the Lone Ranger? Surely you’ve seen Tremors? The new Iron Man? Well all, along with countless others, were filmed right here in Lone Pine and the Film History Museum is the place to see all of treasures donated from these classic movies and shows.
Admission to the Museum is $5 per person, but for that $5 you are not just treated to a stroll through the museum, but the “Wild West Theater” inside plays a 15 minute documentary highlighting key points in Lone Pine’s Movie History. The Theater also plays classic movies every Thursday night. The museum gift shop sells all sorts of classic movie paraphernalia, books, clothes, and much more.
The Film History Museum is also the hub of excitement during the Lone Pine Film Festival, held every October. The Museum hosts dances, celebrity panels, and shows movies constantly through Film Festival.
