The recently reopened Historic Mono Inn is at once a brand new restaurant and a piece of history that has stood the test of time. After a brief hiatus being renovated, the Historic Mono Inn is ready to open it's doors to the summer crowds once more.
The location of the Historic Mono Inn, right off of 395 east of Yosemite, has some of the best views anywhere in the basin. Picture yourself dining out on the back patio as the moon rises out of a purple velvet mist over Mono Lake. If that sounds good to you, make reservations now, because the Inn plans on celebrating this event by having special set menus during the nights around the full moon.
Originally built in 1922 as a destination resort for Mono Lake, the Inn has gone through several different owners through the years including such notables as the grand daughter of Ansel Adams. A few years back, the entire building was beautifully renovated and is currently being run by Jim O'Meally and Mario Aguilar, both of whom have had extensive restaurant experience. Jim's has been involved in the wine industry for decades and is currently part owner of the Casa De Vino in Berkeley. Mario's past experience includes being an integral part of the Tuolumne Lodge in Yosemite as well as spending the past few years starting an organic farm in Mariposa.
Their combined talents and knowledge have helped give the Historic Mono Inn a menu and wine list that is as impressive as the views. With items like Lavender Chicken, Maple Brined Pork Chops and Pesto Cavatappi with Smoked Duck, the food here is above and beyond anything you'd expect to find in the mountains. The lunch hour menu is just as exciting with items such as Elk Burgers, and Crabcakes. The wine list is as extensive as the views. Each wine was chosen with conscious effort to pair with a particular meal. Serving mostly Californian wines, the list includes a list suitable for anyones price range. For those of you looking to get away for some time to appreciate the simple things in life. The Historic Mono Inn has it all - delicious food, a great ambiance and a scenic landscape that opens your soul.
