Lone Pine

Welcome!
The Eastern Escarpment of the High Sierra is world renown for it's dramatic vistas. The crest of this "Backbone of California" is a remote and wild place seldom visited and completely unspoiled by man.

The High Sierra is certainly the main attraction of the Owens Valley, and Lone Pine in particular , but the allure for many is the spacious valley floor with its endless miles of dirt roads for hiking, biking, or driving.

The main attraction of the Lone Pine area is undoubtedly Mt. Whitney. With its summit elevation of 14,496, it is the highest peak in the U. S. outside of Alaska.

There is much more to Lone Pine than Mt. Whitney however.

The Alabama Hills offer the chance to get lost in a maze of beatiful rock formations. These exquisite ramparts have provided many movie makers with a unique and exciting setting for their films. The annual film festival in Lone Pine pays homage to the history of film making in this area.

Trout fishing gets an early start in the Eastern Sierra with the opening day in the Lone Pine area being the first Saturday in March

Mountain biking is another enticing option during the spring. The endless dirt roads which abound in the Owens Valley offer challenging rides as well as meandering journeys through the sage and cacti.

It's entirely up to you to pick your adventure.

There is always a new vista, a new option, a new experience to be found here in the greatest place on earth, the Eastern Sierra.

Because of the Mt. Whitney trail's popularity, a quota/reservation system is in effect during the main-use season.
