This area is known for its Basque restaurants. This southern area of the Carson Valley is long known for ranching and the countryside is still dotted with large ranches and old out buildings. The Kingsbury Grade up to the south shore of Lake Tahoe starts near here and so does Hiway 88 over the Sierra Crest. Along Hiway 88 in the Kirkwood Ski Resort and the shrewd skiers and boarders stay in Minden and shred at Kirkwood. The Carson Valley Inn is well know for its hospitality and food. There are numerous fast food outlets here as well as gas and numerous traveler services. This is a great place to stop.
