WEATHER
The weather has remained great with daytime temps in the hi 70’s to low 80’s and nights dropping to the low 50’s. The skies have tried to be blue but smoke from the fires keeps filtering in. It will be nice when the breezes are right and then smoky when the breezes change. Overall though it is very nice, the smoke is very light.

SOUTH LAKE
Water level continues to rise and is just touching the launch ramp. With the warm weather it is coming up pretty fast. Fishing has been very good with lots of limits coming out with Nightcrawlers and gold Kastmasters. Some anglers have been painting one of the sides of the Kastmaster red and that seems to help. The red gold Thomas Buoyant has been killer. Red seems to be the key right now. Trolling is doing very well by the rockslide and through Boiler Cove with Needlefish red dot frog or just a threaded Nightcrawler.

BISHOP CREEK
The water remains running at a perfect level now. The fishing has been pretty good. Most anglers are catching fish but are reporting they have to work for them. Panther Martins and small Kastmasters have been very good. Lot of action with red label Pautzke’s. It still seems to be a location issue, if you are not catching fish move to another area. Weir Pond has been doing very well. Lots of flyfishermen have been reporting good action with black ants, bead head Prince Nymphs, and olive Woolys.

NORTH LAKE AND INTAKE II
North Lake was great this week. We had a family from Las Vegas come in with some nice stringers using Thomas Buoyants or Powerbait. They reported excellent fishing on the far side by the pack station.
Intake two doing very well with Nightcrawlers and green Powerbait. Most anglers did very well but reported having to work pretty hard for their fish. Several float tubers were enjoying the scenery while catching their limits on Sunday.
Lake Sabrina is almost full now and the fishing really took off this week. Most anglers reported excellent fishing with Nightcrawlers in the back of the lake and several did well trolling on the far side. The fishermen we talked to this week rated Sabrina the hottest spot in the area.

BIG FISH
Ron Hellmers from Thousand Oaks caught a 4 lb. 7 oz. Rainbow in North Lake using green Powerbait.

Remember, great pictures of fish and scenery are available on our website: www.bishopcreekresorts.com

Mosquito Flats

by admin

Situated in a parking lot above Rock Creek Lake at around 9,000′ or so lies a trailhead. This parking area is known as Mosquito Flats, and has some really fun, roadside angling for small wild trout in the form of brooks, browns, and rainbows. These fish are small…between 4? and 9?…but readily take a dry fly and can be tremendous fun on an ultra light setup. Size 18-20 dry flies and parachutes will take small brooks and browns all day long. Stimulator, Elk Hair Caddis, Parachute Adams, Parachute Hare’s Ear…all size 18-20, and all work well. Size 20-22 Bead Head Hare’s Ear

Nymph mosquitoflatsdroppers also work well in the deeper runs and eddies. For the hardware guys, go ultra light, and throw tiny spoons and spinners. Don’t come up here expecting to get into any 12? monsters. This area is completely wild trout, and most of them are very small. 8? is a good fish in this small area. Take the trail up to the valley for some better fish. Stop and look at the map at the trailhead, pick a lake or creek…and go fishing.
