WEATHER
The weather is perfect falll weather. The days are in the 60’s to 70’s with the nights in the 40’s. Clear blue skies and no wind. The colors are almost gone now up at altitude but they are still around at about the 7000 ft. level.
SOUTH LAKE
The lake level is dropping and the boats are gone but the fishing has been GREAT. Most anglers are upset because they are catching limits of very nice fish too fast. Nightcrawlers and Salmon Egg flavored Powerbait seem to be best. Some action with Roostertails and Thomas Buoyants, but bait has been best. Some nice sized fish coming out with several very large Alpers.
BISHOP CREEK
The water level is still good and the fishing is also GREAT. Nightcrawlers or Salmon Eggs have been incredible. Again, many large fish with several Paiute Palace tagged Alpers coming out. Flyfishing has dropped off but bait fishing has been superb. The trees have lost most of their leaves now and they are in the creeks so finding nice pockets of water with fish hiding in them is pretty easy.
NORTH LAKE AND INTAKE II
North Lake continues to be wonderful with Salmon Eggs or the pink Powerworms. Anglers reporting very good to excellent fishing. Some float tubers are still trying their wares and apparently doing very good.
Intake two is probably the best for still water fishing. Inflated Nightcrawlers have been great along with Salmon Eggs or Salmon Egg flavored Powerbait.
Lake Sabrina is starting to wind down now but the fishing remains pretty good. Nightcrawlers or pink Powerworms have done good from shore. Also some good results with chunky cheese Powerbait.
BACKCOUNTRY
Haven’t heard anything from the hikers. It is pretty cold now. We still see some hikers around but it is pretty well done for the year.
WEATHER
It has been gorgeous with the daytime temps in the hi 70’s and the nights falling to the hi 50’s. Skies have been clear and very gentle winds during the daytimes. It almost looked like a storm coming in on the 4th but finally cleared up for a great time at the firework display at the airport in Bishop.
SOUTH LAKE
The fishing has been great with most lures with a red color. The red-gold Thomas Buoyant has been king with Kastmasters coming in a close second. Bait fishing has been very good with fluorescent red Powerbait being the best. Nightcrawlers and Salmon Eggs are doing very well, also. Trolling good with a threaded Nightcrawler or a rainbow trout Countdown Rapala.
BISHOP CREEK
The creek is good with a chunk of Worm or Pautzke’s Salmon Eggs. Red seems to be working best. Most anglers reporting they still have to work for the fish but they are all coming out with fish. We saw several very nice Rainbows come in from the creek this week, one even had a Piute Palace Tag, so the angler had a nice fish and won some money in the Casino Derby.
NORTH LAKE AND INTAKE II
North Lake remained a great fishery this week. Red Powerbait was great along with the silver-blue Kastmaster. The trees are all fully leafed out now so the scenery is spectacular.
Intake two was stocked heavily this week and the fishing was great. Powerbait worked wonders as well as Nightcrawlers or an olive Wooly Bugger behind a bobber. Didn’t see any large fish from Intake, but lots of nice limits.
Lake Sabrina continues to be good. Trolling with a small CD-5 Rainbow Rapala was great. Also, using Nightcrawlers or Powerbait by the dam or in the back worked well.
BIG FISH
John Zaccaria of Yucca Valley came in with a great 4 lb. 0 oz. Alpers Trophy from South Lake. He was using an inflated Nightcrawler with a chunk of orange Powerbait in front and reports that it spooled him three times before finally landing it.
Hikari Kimura of Cypress came in with two nice Rainbows from Bishop Creek with the largest weighing in at 1 lb. 9 oz. She was using pink Powerbait.
